- Historic City Center
Plaza Mayor founded by the spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535 ; Pizarro also planned the construction of the Cathedral, Goverment Palace among others. This beautiful Plaza Mayor was built combining different architectural styles, as the ones you can see in viceregal balconies and an old fountain made in bronze in 1690. Nowadays Plaza Mayor has been remodeled to have its characteristic elegance of the past.
- Cathedral of Lima.
Its construction began the very day Lima was founded , and its first stone was put by Francisco Pizarro. In its interior has the statue of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, the set of the choir chairs, the chapel of La Inmaculada, a Christ sculpted in marfil and la Virgen de la Evangelización crowned by Juan Pablo II in 1985, there is also a crypt with the remains of Francisco Pizarro. Next to the Cathedral is the Palacio Arzobispal which you can see their beautiful balconies.
- Presidential Palace
Known as “Casa Pizarro”. It has an elegant front made of stones with beautiful halls one in particular is the golden hall which holds a valuable collection of paintings. Every day at noon, in the esplanade take place the “Changing the Guard” by soldiers of the battalion Husares de Junin.
- City Hall
Has beautiful balconies made in wood and a very important collection of colonial paintings, pictures and official documents that are in relation to The Founding of Lima signed by Francisco Pizarro in January 18, 1535 and the Declaration of Independence Day signed by General Jose de San Martin in 1821.
